After placing second in their season opener, the Hawks golf team competed in two day tournament at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington. Both days of play brought tough weather conditions in the form of cold temps and strong winds, but the Hawks pushed through and brought home third place out of 10 teams.
After the first day of play,
Mason White led the Hawks shooting +6 through 18 holes.
Brevin Knight and
Trevor Laub followed closely behind, shooting +7 and +8, respectively. After one day of play, the Hawks sat in 5
th place as a team.
In the second and final day of play, the Hawks fought their way from a 5
th place team standing, to 3
rd. The effort was led by Knight, who shot +4 during the second round of play. Knight finished the tournament +11, which led the Hawks and earned him a top 10 individual finish. Â
Following Knight was White and Laub who shot +10 and +8, respectively, for day two. White and Laub both finished the tournament +16 and T14 individually.
Head coach,
Josh Edison, comments, "It's difficult to say without being there how difficult the conditions at The Den were this week, hence the scores being relatively high compared to most other events."
Regardless of the tough conditions, Edison was proud of how his team battled, saying "We knew the weather forecast going in and part of our philosophy as a program is to remain resilient, and never give up on a round. Every member of the team did that the 2
nd round to vault us into third place and I am extremely proud of every member of the team for achieving that."
The Hawks are back in action this weekend as they compete in the IWU Invitational at Ironwood Golf Course on Friday and Saturday.
