Heartland Softball Finishes the Regular Season with Two Wins at the Corn Crib

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
After another softball season, the year and the sophomores were celebrated on their home turf on April 26th, where the Hawks faced the John Wood Blazers.

The Hawks started things off strong with a game one win to open up the day. The first three innings were a battle on the mound with no runs scored, and it wasn't until the 4th that the Heartland offense was able to score first. A double from Shelby Oakley got the sophomore to second, where she ended up scoring on a double from freshman Nataliha Oleniczak. The following at-bat, Bella Johnson singled to bring the second run of the game to put the Hawks up 2-0. The score improved for the Blazers 2-1, but it wasn't enough as the offense added an insurance run in the 5th when a string of hits plated another run, making the final 3-1 with Heartland on top. Tayla Eaves had a strong performance on the mound, throwing the complete seven innings with five hits, walking one batter, and striking out three through 29 batters. The team took game one 3-1 and were ready to bounce back for another seven innings shortly after.

Game two was another close game between the Hawks and Blazers. Despite the four hits collected by the Hawks, they were able to add two runs to the board. A single from Oleniczak got her on base, where she advanced to second on a stolen base and moved to third on a groundout from Johnson. Adding the first score of the game was all thanks to Olivia Kobel, who laid down a bunt, sacrificing herself for the run. The rest of the game remained scoreless until the Hawks added another run in the bottom of the fifth when a couple of singles from the top of the lineup plated their second run.
Keearrah Brown and the defense held off the Blazers through seven innings. A double play at the top of the 6th helped the defense stay out of trouble. Brown faced a total of 28 batters, where multiple players were left stranded on the bases. The freshman gave up seven hits and one run, walking two and striking out four.

The Hawks ended the day with two wins with a 2-1 victory in game two despite the Blazers' efforts to come back in the top of the seventh. As the season comes to a close, the Hawks look forward to the postseason, where they await their Region opponents.
