The four-game series against the Lincoln Land Loggers was held on April 24th and 25th, where the Hawks came out on top in all four contests. The Heartland lineup made strong performances at the plate as well as on the field. The offense scored a total of 47 runs, while the defense allowed only 12 runs throughout the weekend.
Day one was an away game day where the Hawks traveled to Springfield. There, they wasted no time in putting numbers up on the board. Scoring in five of the six innings, the bats were consistent through the nine batters with 10 hits and six free bases collected through 26 at-bats.
Bennett Summers led the charge with three hits and two runs scored. Right behind the centerfielder were
Dom Kooistra,
Jimmy Anderson, and
Jake Parpet with two hits and a homerun each.
The standout performance for the Hawks was on the mound as
Trevor Rehnstrom started and finished things for the pitching staff. The sophomore threw a total of six innings, facing 24 batters. The right-hander only allowed one run on five hits with zero free bases awarded and five strikeouts.
The game ended with Heartland defeating Lincoln Land 11-1. Game two was no different as the Hawks were able to finish the day up in five innings.
   Â
Dylan Nagle took the mound for the Hawks this go around and was able to shut out the Loggers. The sophomore only gave up three hits and one free base in his outing with five strikeouts. Not only did the defense leave the door shut for the Loggers, but the offense turned the heat on with another high-scoring game to finish things off early.
   Â
TJ Jakubowski batted 1.000 through three at-bats. Rounding out the runs for the Hawks was a two-run homer from Anderson in the top of the 5th to bring the final score with Heartland over Lincoln Land 11-0.
After going 2-0, the Hawks made the return home as they looked to sweep the series on a sunny day at the Corn Crib.
The Loggers started things off in game one when they were able to score two runs on an inside-the-park homerun. The Hawks didn't take long to respond in the bottom of the second when a hit by pitch, a couple of singles, and a fielder's choice left the offense finishing the inning with five runs. Anderson was a standout at the plate once again with two runs and two walks. Kooistra and Parpet found home plate when they both sent a couple of balls over the fence to give three runs in total.
   Â
Jake Gimbel and
Ryan Anderson threw a combined seven innings to hold off the Loggers from catching up to the Heartland offense. Across the two sophomores, they were able to keep their lineup to one free base and sat down a total of eight batters. The Hawks landed on top once again, 11-5, and were ready to take the final game of the series.
Once again, the bats were hot in game two with 15 total hits and 14 runs.
Chase Peterson had himself a day with four hits, four runs, and three RBIs. Kooistra ended the game on a run-rule with a walk-off two-run home run to right to bring the final to 14-6.
It was a joint effort on the mound through seven innings of play from
Kasey Griffin,
Tyler Ledvina, and
Tyler Dowling. Griffin threw three strong innings with six this and two runs allowed, walking two and striking out three.
Heartland baseball takes the rest of the weekend to rest before returning for kids day Tuesday, April 28th, against the Lake Land Lakers for a single 9-inning game.
