Volleyball Splits Heartland Quad

Heartland volleyball beat Chattanooga State CC in a 3-0 sweep, but lost to No. 4 Kansas City CC in a five-set thriller to cap off the Heartland Quad. Outside hitter Ava Yeakel led the way on offense with 31 total kills while libero Kayleigh Keim added 37 total digs to hold down the defensive end.

Game 1: No. 1 Heartland CC def. Chattanooga State CC, 3-0 (25-22. 25-21, 25-22)
Despite the match being a sweep, it was extremely close in every set, with the Hawks being down multiple points down the stretch. Timely kills from Yeakel and outside hitter Addison Pacha were huge. Yeakel led the team with 15 kills at a .464 hitting percentage while Pacha had 10 kills at .134 hitting percentage. Outside hitter Elena Kvasnicka had 8 kills at an efficient .467 hitting percentage.

The duo of Keim and Ella Haines on defense were huge as they combined for 23 digs. Middle blocker Lexie Robokoff was a force at the net, as she had six total blocks – the highest by a Hawk this season. Setter Reece Elaine Harrison continues to feed her attackers as she had 30 assists.

Game 2: No. 4 Kansas City CC def. Heartland CC, 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 25-19, 20-25, 14-16)
The Hawks dropped a barn burner, but competed to the very last point. The first set was back and forth with Heartland winning by two points. They had 15 kills in this set. Set two leaned in favor of Kansas City, with Heartland struggling to get the offense going. Set three went to Heartland after a dominant set with only two attacking errors. Heartland was not able to close it out in set four as Kansas City rallied back with timely blocks to stymie the Heartland attack. The last set was intense, with each point mattering so much. Kansas City jumped out to an early lead, but Heartland battled back. The Hawks could not break free even with a chance to win it and ultimately lost 3-2.

Yeakel and Kvasnicka lead the way with 16 and 15 kills, respectively. The duo of Keim and Haines were at it again with 44 combined digs. Pacha had 15 kills at a .129 hitting percentage. Elaine Harrison had 42 assists as well to continue her strong setting.
The Hawks are back in action Wednesday in their first MWAC game against No. 7 Parkland in Champaign, IL.
