Heartland Soccer Wraps up Successful Michigan Trip

Heartland Soccer went a combined 3-1 on their weekend trip to Michigan. The men's team split their games with a win against Grand Rapids and a loss against No. 15 Schoolcraft. The women's team took down Kellogg CC and the No. 1 Division III team in
Delta College.

Men's Soccer: RV Heartland def. Grand Rapids CC 3-1 | No. 15 Schoolcraft def. RV Heartland 3-1

Heartland put on a defensive clinic in game one against Grand Rapids, holding them to just one shot on goal. Carl-Hans Joseph, Max Huber and Gabriele Proietti all scored goals for Heartland. Huber and Proietti added an assists to their names, as well. Goalkeeper Nathan Serra made one save on one shot on goal too. Huber scored the first goal of the season for the Hawks in the 12th minute before delivering a dime to Proietti to slam the door shut in the 77th minute.

Against Schoolcraft, Heartland was peppering the net with shots, totaling 12 SOG, but Schoolcraft's keeper was locked in, saving 11 of them. The Hawks lone goal came in the 52nd minute from Adrian Movilla on an assist from Osiel Bedolla. The Hawks tried to get momentum from this goal but allowed one just moments later to let the deficit get back to two goals.

Women's Soccer: No. 2 Heartland def. Kellogg CC 2-0 | No. 2 Heartland def. No. 1 Delta College 2-1

The duo of CAM Jasmin Geronimo and forward Desiree Fassin was on full display in both games for the women's team. Against Kellogg, Geronimo had eight shots, four SOG and one assist while Fassin had three shots and one goal. Goalkeeper Eva Santiago Parro had four saves in a shutout win. Fassin scored an unassisted goal in the 28th minute while Geronimo assisted on defender Daniela Aymerich Bardi's first goal of her career in the 53rd minute.

Against Delta, the Hawks totaled seven SOG, two goals and an assist. Fassin had three of those SOG while Geronimo had two. Both of them had a goal. Fassin's came in the 20th minute to give Heartland a 1-0 lead while Geronimo's ended up being the game winner in the 70th minute. That one was assisted by left wing Josy Rogel. The Hawk's defense held them to just four shots and just one SOG.

Both the Men's and Women's team will be in action this Wednesday when they face off against St. Charles CC in Cottleville, MO.
