    On April 28th, the Heartland Hawks hosted the Lake Land Lakers for their final midweek matchup for Kids Day. This annual event is hosted in collaboration with the Corn Belters, where different schools and classes of all ages watch a single nine-inning game.
    The game featured a strong offensive performance from both sides of the field, with the teams collectively putting up 29 hits.
    Having three hits each in their six at-bats were
Dom Kooistra,
Jake Troyner, and
Jake Parpet. Also,
Chase Peterson had a multiple-hit game, leading off with four runs and driving in three. The right fielder added on to his home run total with a two-run home run to increase the Hawks' lead in the bottom of the third. The second home run of the day came in the following inning when Kooista had a three-run shot to take the Hawks' total to the teens.
TJ Jakubowski was able to collect two hits with two walks and four runs batted in.
    The pitching staff went through six pitchers with 14 hits allowed and 15 earned runs, striking out nine batters. The game ended in a tough loss for the Hawks, 16-18.
    The Hawks will return to the Corn Crib for their final regular season series, where they'll face Illinois Central College on Friday, May 1st.
