After a historic 39-8 Season with a National 3rd Place finish, the Hawks are ready to get to work on their 2025 campaign. Making up the team are eight returning players from the core group last year, whose mindset is what is described as "the right place". Coach
Mary Frahm, who has been the leader of this program since its start in 2020, comments on the major success from the previous season. "The success we generated was a culmination of the foundation laid by the last five years of work put in by each player that has come through this program." Even though success came quickly to the program, Frahm comments, "Our focus for this team is truly on this year's process and how we can find this team's identity on and off the court while also honoring the legacy of the players before us."
When discussing this year's team, Frahm touches on the significance of preparation in a season. With the progression of talent through the years, Coach works to maintain her routine in building a successful group and environment.
"We consistently work to ensure that each team has a story of their own, while also playing with the traditions set by the previous years, so we keep our focus on just that. Our expectations always remain the same, which is to always showcase the best version of ourselves on any given night, while remaining selfless and resilient in our play."
The matches in the past week have shown a positive outcome when playing against competitive teams. This is due to the women who are a part of the program for the 2025 season and their urgency to get back to the National tournament.
"I think this group really bought into that during the exhibition matches, knowing that it's the time of the year we're truly just trying to figure things out both on and off the court. I do expect us to be relentless defensively, which I think was showcased in these early matches, and I would like to see us continue to figure out how to play the most efficiently as possible offensively. Over the course of the season, we always look to improve running a balanced offense and making sure we aren't predictable, which will be a big focus for us as we head into regular season play."
With the start of the season here, every aspect of the players and the "what ifs" of the dynamic will be put to the test as they travel to Rockford, Illinois, for the Opening Weekend Tournament. There, they will face some fierce competition to work towards gaining momentum for the future matches.
