    The Heartland Men's and Women's teams traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, to participate in the JUCO Kickoff Classic at the Grand Park Sports Campus. The Hawks would collectively walk away from the weekend with a 2-1-1 record.
    The Men kicked things off when they faced Western Iowa Tech Community College. The Comets jumped on the Hawks early and never let up. They were able to get on the board in each half, giving the Hawks their first loss (0-2). The offense wasn't silent after they were able to get off seven shots on goal. The sophomore goalie,
Soren Goubely Dondaine, stayed busy through the 90 minutes and collected five saves to end the match.
    The Heartland Women's Soccer team showed a strong offense and an even stronger defense through the weekend. Their first matchup had the Hawks facing the Iowa Lakes Community College Lakers. Sophomore
Paula Igual started the scoring off at the 27th minute. The Lakers would answer back a few minutes later, leading the match to be tied going into the second half. It remained tied until
Valeria Agudelo grabbed a goal, with the assist coming from freshman
Kelsey Lucas. The team would collect 27 shots, with 18 of those being on goal, keeping the Lakers' defense busy.
    The following day, the Men would begin play for the Hawks against Jones College, which is the first matchup between the colleges. Starting the back-and-forth play was sophomore
Guilherme Tomas with a goal in the 33rd minute, with the assist from
Angelo Cuomo. Jones College would respond later in the first half. That goal would be answered 30 seconds later by
Xabi Santamaria putting the Hawks back on top two to one. Solidifying the win, forward
Amin Zamani scored in the 70th minute. Goubely Dondaine stayed strong in the net once again with nine total saves to round out the tournament, helping the team return home going 1-1.
    To finish out the tournament, the final face-off had the Hawks facing the number one Division III team, Delta College. After the hard-fought 90-minute endeavor, the women had 22 shots with 17 shots on goal compared to the Lakers' 10 shots with 4 on goal.
Alice Arrigucci stayed steady in the net with no goals allowed. On the flip side, the Hawks were unable to find the back of the net, leading to a 0-0 tie.
    The women are returning to play after the week off to begin home and conference play against Lewis & Clarke Community College. The men have a break till they travel to St. Louis on September 5th to work on improving their record and play.
