The bats were hot in the conference contests as the Hawks took on the Parkland Cobras over the weekend. Heartland had 38 hits and 43 runs in the back-and-forth games. The Hawks took the series 3-1 in the second-to-last conference matchup for baseball.
Game one ended with Heartland on top in a 13-8 victory over the Cobras. The hitters at the plate stayed consistent scoring in half of the innings. A pass ball with bases loaded gave the Hawks the early lead with two runs scored in the bottom of the first. The bottom of the fourth gave Heartland a 4-1 lead from
Jesse Contreras hitting a double to right field. The second baseman led the team going 3-for-4 on the day. The lefty batter scored four runs and batted in two. In his six at-bats, he was also able to collect two walks. The team collected 14 hits and showed patience at the plate with 10 walks.
Jacob O'Day started the Hawks out at the mound pitching 4 innings only allowing one run on three hits. The sophomore righty also collected five strikeouts with only three freebases allowed.
Patrick Gardner came in throwing 1.2 innings until
Ryan Anderson came in to take the win for the pitching staff. The right-handed sophomore allowed two runs on three hits through 3.1 innings pitched.
Game two was no different as the Hawks scored 15 runs over the Cobras 8. Heartland collected 14 hits at the plate.
Jake Gimbel started the game for Heartland. The pitcher allowed six hits and six runs over four innings, striking out three and walking two.
Trevor Rehnstrom earned the win giving up four hits and two runs over three innings. The right-handed freshman struck out four and walked two. Defensively, the Hawks stayed strong getting out of the first inning with a double play and committing no errors. After 2.5 scoreless innings, the Hawks bust it open in the bottom of the third with two runs from patience at the plate. Catcher,
Jake Parpet, went perfect game two with three runs in three ABs with three RBIs. Max Henneman stayed strong in the lead-off position going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs with a walk on the day.
Heartland took off Saturday before heading up to Champaign on the 27th to finish the series.
Once the Hawks took the lead, they never looked back as they took game three 10-0 over Parkland. After a quiet few innings, Heartland opened the scoring in the fourth after they capitalized on an error made in the field scoring two runs. The bats were hot at the top of the sixth inning with five runs scored on three hits.
Brady Davidson showed up for the team going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Collectively, the Hawks accumulated seven hits and four walks through 27 at-bats.
Dylan Nagle took the mound and secured the win throwing all six innings only giving up two hits and one free base. The freshman faced 21 batters and tallied up seven strikeouts.
The final matchup between the Hawks and Cobras is where Heartland fell 5-15 after a seven-run inning by Parkland in the third inning.
Jimmy Amptmann took the mound for two innings only allowing one hit and one run through 12 batters faced.
Michael Belbot took the loss with two earned runs on two hits. The offense was hard to come by for the Hawks as they collected three hits. Hennemann led at the plate with one hit, run, walk, and RBI to finish off the series.
Hawks turn around quickly as they prepare for kids' day at the Corn Crib tomorrow! The contest against Lake Land College will be the third matchup of the 2025 season where the Hawks hope to secure their first win against the Lakers.
