Box Score 4 The Hawks picked up their fifth straight conference sweep today over Vincennes University. With just three MWAC series remaining, the Hawks sit at a perfect 20-0 in conference play.
Through their 20 conference games the Hawks have outscored opponents 222-68 while 12 of the 20 games have been run-rule wins. The Hawks final three MWAC match-ups are with John Wood, Lincoln Land and Lewis and Clark. The Loggers currently sit in second place of the conference standings, three games behind the Hawks.
The Trailblazers of Vincennes came into this weekend's match-up with an overall record of 15-17 and an MWAC record of 6-6.
In game one of the weekend starter
Reese Dutton had another dominate outing on the mound. Dutton threw all seven innings for the Hawks allowing just two runs on five hits. Dutton did not walk a single batter as he struck out six and earned his fifth win of the season to improve to a perfect 5-0.
The offense in game was led by sophomore,
Jeremy Figueroa. Figueroa had two hits, both triples, as well as two RBIs and two runs scored. Freshmen,
Bobby Atkinson and
Ben Hartl each notched a double, while driving in and scoring a run. The Hawk would only need seven of the nine innings in game one to bring home an 11-2 win.
In game two the offense stayed hot as they racked up 14 runs on 12 hits.
Sam Antonacci blasted a homerun and drove in three runs.
Auston Brewer also hit a homerun, his first of the season, while also scoring two runs.
Game two starter
Jason Buhl earned his fifth win of the season, also improving to a perfect 5-0. Buhl went three innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Buhl picked up seven strikeouts in the win. Coming out of the bullpen for the Hawks was sophomore
Mitchel Sampson. Sampson, recording the final six outs of the game, struck out three and did not allow a single hit. Sampson has now thrown 12.1 innings of MWAC play during which he has allowed just four hits and racked up 20 strikeouts. Buhl and Sampson would shut the Trailblazers down in game two as the Hawks would bring home the 13-3 win in five innings.
The Hawks would play host again on Saturday for the second half of the series.
In game three of the weekend, the Hawks would rack up 12 more hits as they would only need six innings to earn the 15-5 win. Freshman
Meade Johnson took home the win on the mound as he threw three innings, allowing three runs on three hits, and fanning three. Johnson improves to 4-0 on the season with the win.
The offense in game three was led by Figueroa and Antonacci who each drove in four runs on two hits. Atkinson was also on base four times in game three with two walks and two hits, a homerun and a double.
In the final game of the series the Hawks' offense stayed red hot as they notched another 12 hits. Hartl had three hits, including a double, along with three RBIs and three runs scored. Antonacci added two hits, both doubles, along with two RBIs and and three runs scored.
Starter
Teague Conrad earned his third win of the season as he threw four innings for the Hawks. Conrad gave up just two hits and two runs while striking out four.
Connor Aten threw the final inning of the weekend not allowing a hit, while picking up a strikeout.
The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday as they host South Suburban College in a 9-inning game set for 3:30 PM. The Bulldogs, hailing from South Holland, currently sit at a record of 20-11. The Hawks will continue MWAC play next weekend with a four-game series against John Wood Community College. The Blazers will come into the series with an MWAC record of 3-13. The Hawks will host the Blazers on Friday at 1 and 3 PM and travel to Quincy on Sunday for the second half of the series. Friday's games can be streamed
