Heartland Community College shortstop Jimmy Anderson was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round (142nd overall) of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday, July 12.

Anderson's selection marks the third consecutive year that a Heartland baseball player has been drafted by a Major League Baseball organization. Under Head Coach Chris Razo, four former Hawks have now been selected in the MLB Draft.

Anderson spent two seasons at Heartland, appearing in and starting all 111 games at shortstop. During his sophomore campaign, he put together one of the best offensive seasons in program history, batting .456 with a 1.030 slugging percentage and a .544 on-base percentage.

He also launched a school-record 26 home runs during the 2026 season, breaking Heartland's single-season home run record. Anderson finished his career with 36 home runs, establishing a new career home run record for the Hawks.

His outstanding career earned him numerous accolades, including NJCAA First Team All-American and Third Team All-American honors, Region 24 Player of the Year, MWAC Player of the Year, two All-Region selections, and First Team All-MWAC recognition. He also ranked among the top 10 nationally in several offensive categories throughout the season.

This marks the second consecutive year Anderson was selected in the MLB Draft. He was previously chosen in the 19th round of the 2025 MLB Draft before electing to return to Heartland for his sophomore season. That decision culminated in one of the most decorated individual seasons in program history and ultimately improved his draft position by 14 rounds.
