Box Score 3 Today, both baseball and softball were back in action in Florida. Baseball earned their third win of the trip while softball dropped their final two games.
Baseball continued Florida competition with a matchup against Glen Oaks Community College. The Vikings, from Centreville, Michigan, entered today's game with a record of 0-6.
The Hawks came out hot and never looked back as the offense exploded for 13 runs on 15 hits. The Hawks belted eight extra base hits, including five triples. Leading the offense with two triples and a double was freshman Ben Hartl. Hartl also chipped in two RBIs and four runs scored. Sam Antonacci also picked up three hits and scored two runs. Coming off a four-RBI day yesterday, freshman Mason Sawyer picked up three more RBIs in today's win.
With a dominating performance on the mound, freshman Meade Johnson picked up his second win of the season. Johnson threw five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out ten in the win over the Vikings. So far this season, Johnson has allowed just two hits and no runs through his ten innings pitched. Johnson is averaging 2.1 strikeouts an inning so far this season.
Baseball will wrap up their spring trip tomorrow with a double-header against Century College. The games are set for 9:30 AM and 12 PM ET.
On their last day of games in Florida, softball met up with Jackson College for game one of the day. The Jets finished their 2021 season with a record of 33-15 and entered today's match-up with a record of 5-2. The Jets would defeat the Hawks by a score of 11-3. Mackenzie Nelson, Blair Jacobus and Kaci Shickel would each chip in an RBI in the loss.
In game two of the day the Hawks squared-off against the Aquinas College JV team. The Saints would shut out the Hawks as they took home the 3-0 win. Game two pitcher, Blair Jacobus, threw a complete game for the Hawks allowing three runs while striking out seven.
The Hawks will come home with a 3-3 record through their first six games of the season. Now officially done with their Florida games, softball will be back in action March 16th as they travel to Kankakee for a double-header. The Hawks will play their first conference game on the 23rd as they travel to Spoon River. Their home opener is set for the 26th against Lewis and Clark.
