Baseball Sweeps Parkland to Remain Perfect in Conference Play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 With a series sweep of Parkland, the Hawks baseball team has now won eight straight games to improve their overall record to 16-6 and take their MWAC record to a perfect 8-0. 

In game one of the series the Hawks blasted three home runs. Freshman Ben Hartl smashed a grand slam in the second inning. Riley Rundquist and Sam Antonacci also picked up homeruns. Sophomore Jeremy Figueroa was on base five times in game one with three hits and two walks while Braden Zenor added three hits and an RBI. 

Game one starter, Reese Dutton went six innings for the Hawks, giving up just three runs on five hits. Dutton picked up 11 strikeouts and his second win of the season in the dominate outing. Coming in relief for Dutton and recording the final nine outs of the game was sophomore, Mitchel Sampson. Sampson went three innings, allowing two runs on just three hits. Sampson also picked up three strikeouts and his first save of the season as the Hawks brought home the 9-5 win in game one. 

In game two of the series, despite being out hit by the Cobras, the Hawks would use an 8-run sixth inning to complete the comeback win. Hartl led the Hawks in game two with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Sean Shook and Bobby Atkinson also chipped in a pair of RBIs a piece. 

Teague Conrad went three and two-thirds innings in his game two start. Conrad allowed four runs while fanning five. Freshman, Jason Buhl would come in relief for Conrad. Buhl earned the win in game two as he allowed just three hits and one run over three and a third innings. Buhl picked up five strikeouts in his second win of the season. 

After a days rest, the Hawks traveled to Champaign for the second half of the series. 

In game three of the series the Hawks came out hot putting up four runs in the first inning. Antonacci and Rundquist each picked up a pair of hits. Bryce Brown also chipped in a hit and two RBIs in the Hawks third win of the weekend. 

Kieran Schmitz earned the win on the mound, making it his second of the season, as he went five innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out three. Freshmen Meade Johnson and Jake Jakubowski came in relief, each throwing an inning a piece. Jakubowski earned the save, striking out the side in the seventh and sealing the 5-3 win for the Hawks. 

In the final game of the series, the Hawks would find themselves trailing by a score of 11-3 heading to the sixth inning. However, the Hawks would score nine unanswered runs as they pulled another comeback win and sealed their second straight series sweep. In the series finale, Atkinson led the offense with three hits and two runs scored. Figueroa, Rundquist and Zenor each drove in two runs. 

Connor Aten went three innings in his start allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two. Sophomores, Jacob Kampf and Luke Skudlarczyk each came out of the bullpen to throw an inning. Also coming out of the bullpen was freshman Mason Telford. Telford went home as the winning pitcher after throwing three scoreless innings for the Hawks and not allowing a single hit. The Hawks would eventually take home a 12-11 win and a series sweep over the Parkland Cobras. 

The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Moline for a non-conference double-header against Black Hawk College. The games are set for 1 PM and 3 PM. The Hawks will then resume conference play this weekend with a series against Illinois Central College. The Hawks will play away on Friday and return home on Saturday for the second half of the series. Friday's games are set for 2 PM and 4 PM.
