Baseball Sweeps First Conference Series Against Danville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Hawks kicked off MWAC play yesterday with a double-header against Danville Area Community College. After two dominating wins to kick off their conference schedule, the Hawks returned home and picked up two more wins to secure the series sweep.

In Sunday's games the Hawks' bats were on fire as they scored 26 runs and blasted 11 homeruns in two games. The Hawks would win game one by a score of 12-4 and game two by a score of 14-2. 

Game one starter, Reese Dutton, allowed just three hits and struck out six in his three innings of scoreless work. Coming in relief for Dutton was sophomore, Jacob Kampf. Kampf struck out four in his four innings of work and helped the Hawks bring home a 12-4 win in seven innings. 

In game two, starter Connor Aten allowed just one run through four innings of work. Aten also picked up six strikeouts in the start. Coming in relief for Aten was sophomore, Luke Skudlarczyk. Skudlarczyk threw two innings, allowing one run, and striking out three as the Hawks earned their second run-rule win of the day with a score of 14-2. 

In Sunday's games, Sam Antonacci led the offense with six hits, including three extra base hits. Antonacci also chipped in six RBIs and five runs scored. Freshman, Jacyk Uehling also had a strong Sunday as he picked up four hits, including two doubles and a triple. 

In today's double-header, the Hawks pitchers allowed just two runs all day. Game one starter, Teague Conrad picked up his first win of the season as he threw a complete game for the Hawks. Conrad struck out six in his seven innings of work while not walking a single batter. The Hawks would eventually take home an 8-2 win in game one. 

In game two, starter Meade Johnson threw five scoreless innings and picked up six strikeouts. Johnson has yet to allow a run through 15 innings of work so far this season. Coming in relief for Johnson was sophomore Kieran Schmitz. Schmitz threw two scoreless innings and struck out three to earn the Hawks their second win of the day. The 9-0 shutout win also earned the Hawks a series sweep in their first MWAC matchup of the season.

Leading the offense in today's double-header was sophomore, Jeremy Figueroa. Figueroa picked up five hits, two RBIs and two runs scored in today's games. Sophomore Tyler Brandenburg also had a strong day at the plate picking up four RBIs and his sixth homerun of the season. 

The Hawks, who now sit at an overall record of 12-6, are back in action on Wednesday as they host Southwestern Illinois College for a 9 inning game at 3 PM. The Hawks will continue MWAC play this weekend as they square-off against conference rival, Parkland College for a pair of double-headers. The Hawks will host the first double-header on Friday with first pitch set for 1 PM. They will then travel to Rantoul Sports Complex on Saturday for the second double-header. Saturday's games are also set to begin at 1 PM.
