Box Score 2 The Hawks hosted Harper College in a double-header for their first home games of the 2022 season.
In game one, the Hawks got out to an early lead putting up three runs in the first inning and three more in the third. In the bottom of the fourth,
Riley Rundquist and
Bobby Atkinson would blast back-to-back solo homeruns to extend the Hawks' lead to eight. Two innings later, a
Bryce Brown solo homerun and
Sam Antonacci two-run homer would put the Hawks up 11 and enforce a run-rule to end the first game of the double-header.Â
Game one starter,
Meade Johnson would go the distance in his Heartland debut allowing just one hit through five innings of work. Johnson would also pick up eleven strikeouts in his first outing as a Hawk. Defeating Harper College 11-0 in the first game, the Hawks would secure their first win of the season.Â
In game two, the Hawks offense would explode for 13 runs on 13 hits. The offensive surge was led by freshman,
Sam Antonacci. Antonacci drove home six runs, while going 3 for 4 at the plate with two triples and a homerun. Sophomores,
Tyler Brandenburg and
Jeremy Figueroa each blasted a homerun while adding two and three RBIs, respectively.Â
Game two starter,
Luke Skudlarczyk went five innings for the Hawks giving up one earned run and striking out three. Sophomore,
Connor Best would come in relief and throw a scoreless inning while picking up two strikeouts of his own. Forcing another run-rule, the Hawks would eventually take home a 13-3 win and their second win of the season as they completed the sweep of Harper College.Â
The Hawks are back in action tomorrow as they host Bryant & Stratton College in another double-header at the Corn Crib. First pitch is set for 2 PM. Both games can be streamed
