Hawks Softball Goes 4-2 in Rosemont Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Hawks softball team traveled to Rosemont this week to play a series of double headers. After dropping two games last weekend to Lakeland, the Hawks looked to turn things around. The Hawks did just that and finished the week tallying up four wins and only two losses.

The Hawks' first double header of the week was on Tuesday against Highland Community College. The Hawks won game one with a score of 9-0. Freshman, Olivia Baker, brought it in the circle for the Hawks as she threw a complete game shutout. Baker tallied up 12 strikeouts and only allowed one hit in six innings pitched for the Hawks. The Hawks offense was led by freshman, Taylor Schwartz, who collected 4 RBIs and 2 hits. Sophomore, Charlie Sartoris, also chipped in 2 RBIs and 2 hits for the Hawks in game one.

In game two against the Cougars, the Hawks offense got out to a hot start. The offense was led once again by Sartoris, and fellow sophomores, Mikayla Fairfield and Olivia Schultz, who each collected three hits. Fairfield and sophomore, Morgan Boward, each chipped in 3 RBIs for the Hawks. Freshman, Kaci Shickel, carried the Hawks in the circle in game two as she gave up only one hit and posted six strikeouts as the Hawks soared to a 14-2 win.

The Hawks continued the action on Thursday as they faced off against Kankakee Community College for another double header. The Hawks defense didn't allow a run as sophomore, Alyssa Webb, threw five innings and gave up only one hit. The offense, which exploded for 7 runs in the 5th inning, was led by Schultz, who had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. The Hawks won in five innings with a final score of 8-0.

In game two against the Cavaliers, the Hawks offense came out hot. The Hawks put up 6 runs in the top of the first and did not look back. The Hawks offense was led by sophomore, Kendra Mitchell. Mitchell went 4-4, with a triple, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Freshmen, Baker and Blair Jacobus, led the defense in the circle. The Hawks won game two with a score of 14-5.

The Hawks rounded out their busy week with a pair of games at Triton College. The Hawks and Trojans traded runs all day, but the Trojans came out on top 9-6 in game one and 15-7 in game two. Sophomores, Macey McElravy and Schultz, both had homeruns in the double header. Schultz led in game one with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. In game two, Sartoris and Schwartz had 3 hits and McElravy drove home 3 runs.

The Hawks are back in action on Monday with their home opener against Kirkwood Community College. The double header between the Hawks and Eagles is at 1pm and 3pm and will be live streamed on heartlandhawks.com
