After trailing for much of the contest, the Heartland softball team was down to its final chance in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two against Danville Area on Sunday at The Corn Crib. The Hawks trailed 12-8 entering the frame after falling 12-7 in the opening game of the doubleheader. A walk-off single by
Erin Anderson broke a 12-12 tie to give the Hawks a comeback victory and a series split with the Jaguars.

The Jaguars opened the game with a 3-0 advantage in the first. A
Concetta DeBord RBI-double put the Hawks on the board at 3-1, but Danville Area responded with two more tallies in the second to make it 5-1.
Raeghan Morefield launched a two-run shot in the second before
Sadie Christensen scored on a wild pitch and
Ellie Downing drove-in another run to put the Hawks in front at 6-5 through two frames.

Danville Area had yet another response in it, as the Jaguars took the lead with four runs in the third to make it 9-6 in favor of the visitors. A Christensen sacrifice fly and a wild pitch by the Jaguars granted the Hawks two more runs to make it 9-8 in the fifth, but Alyssa Acton hit her second home run of the game to extend the Danville Area lead to 11-8 in the sixth. The visitors would score once more in the seventh to make it 12-8.

The Hawks had a rally still left in them, however, as Madi Smith led-off the bottom of the seventh with a double. After a Morefield strikeout, Christensen walked before Jaidyn Walters knocked-in Smith to make it 12-9. Benedict followed with a sacrifice fly, before
Shayne Immke delivered a two-run, game-tying homer to left field to tie the game at 12-12.

After Downing walked and DeBord singled, Anderson laced a line drive single up the middle to score Downing and the Hawks completed a thrilling comeback to secure the victory. Downing and Walters paced the Hawks with three hits apiece.

In the opening game of the day, the Hawks fell 12-7 to the Jaguars. An Ali Grenzebach sacrifice fly made it 1-0 in favor of the visitors in the first. Smith put the Hawks in the lead in the second with her first of two home runs in the contest to make it 2-1. The Jaguars would score three tallies in the third before an Immke solo shot made it 4-3 in favor of the Jaguars.

Danville Area scored twice in the fifth to make it 6-3, but the Hawks would tie the contest in the bottom-half of the frame. A Downing single and a Danville Area error allowed two Heartland runs to cross before DeBord added an RBI-single of her own to make it 6-6. The Jaguars scored twice in the sixth, but Smith hit a solo shot in the bottom of the inning to narrow the deficit to 8-7. Danville Area would ultimately secure the win with four runs in the seventh.

The Hawks return to action at 1:30 pm Monday for a doubleheader at Lincoln Land.
