Offensive Outburst Keys Softball to Wins Over John Wood, Lewis & Clark

The Heartland softball team erupted offensively on Friday and Saturday, combining for 80 total runs and 74 hits across four games. The Hawks defeated John Wood in a doubleheader on Saturday before securing two more victories at Lewis and Clark on Sunday. Currently, the Hawks sit at 25-25 overall.
 
Game 1
Heartland's offense exploded for 35 runs on 27 hits in Saturday's 35-1 victory over John Wood in game one of the day at The Corn Crib. The Hawks scored 15 runs in the first frame and 13 more in the second.
 
Eight different Hawks supplied multiple hits in the contest, with Madi Smith and Bailey Brooks each finishing with four hits apiece. Shayne Immke had three hits, while Concetta DeBord, Kylee Isaac, Raeghan Morefield, Natalie Nicholson and Sadie Christensen had two hits. Brooks hit two home runs, while DeBord and Smith each had a long ball of their own. Amber Teimeyer picked up the win, throwing five innings and allowing one runs on three hits with five punchouts.
 
Game 2
The Hawks continued their offensive outburst in game two Saturday, securing a 16-1 victory over John Wood in five frames. Smith ignited the scoring for the Hawks in the first with an RBI-single before the home team scored eight more times in the second to open up a 9-0 advantage. DeBord and Immke each delivered run-scoring hits before Smith launched a two-run homer. Brooks added a two-run bomb of her own.
 
An RBI-single by Immke and a run-scoring double by Maci Byers extended the advantage to 11-0 in the third. A long ball by Robinson, and RBI hits by Nicholson and Immke in the fourth put five more tallies on the board for the Hawks. The Blazers would score once in the fifth, but Robinson finished-off the contest on the mound to secure the win.
 
Robinson threw five frames and allowed one run (unearned) on one hit with eight punchouts. Immke and Robinson paced the Heartland offense with three hits each.
 
Game 3
On Sunday, the Hawks traveled to Lewis and Clark for a pair of games, ultimately taking the first contest 15-3. An Ellie Downing sacrifice fly put the Hawks in front 1-0 in the first before the Trailblazers scored twice in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.
 
A nine-run third frame gave the Hawks the lead back at 10-2. Immke singled home a run before run-scoring doubles by Smith and Morefield made it 5-2. Hicks added an RBI-single, Immke scored two runs with a double and an error by Lewis and Clark made it 10-2.
 
The Trailblazers would get a run back in the bottom of the third before a sacrifice fly by Hicks and run-scoring hits by DeBord and Immke made it 13-3 in favor of Heartland. Another Lewis and Clark miscue and a Byers sacrifice fly in the fifth extended the lead to 15-3, which held as the final score.
 
Immke finished with three hits, while DeBord, Smith and Morefield each had two base knocks. Morgan Malone registered the win for the Hawks, pitching five innings and yielding three runs on five hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.
 
Game 4
In the final game of the weekend, the Hawks rallied for a 14-5 victory over the Trailblazers. After falling behind 4-0 in the early-going, an RBI-single by Downing and an RBI by Morefield made it 4-2 in the third. RBI-singles by Brooks and Rico, a two-run bomb by DeBord and an error by the Trailblazers put the Hawks in front at 7-4 in the fourth.
 
The Trailblazers would score once in the fourth before the Hawks tacked-on five more tallies in the bottom of the frame. Christensen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before Walters drove-in a run with a groundout. A DeBord RBI-single, an Immke sacrifice fly and another Lewis and Clark error made it 12-5. Morefield added a two-run double in the seventh to make it 14-5. Rico paced the Hawks offensively with three hits.
 
The Hawks return to action at 1 pm Friday for a doubleheader against Spoon River at The Corn Crib.
