The Heartland Softball team travelled down south to Branson, Missouri, to compete in the Showtime Classic for a two-day, four-game weekend. On February 27th, the Hawks faced Moberly Area Community College and Olney Central College, respectively.
To start things off in the morning, the Hawks kept the bat consistent through the lineup as seven batters collected eight hits. Leading the charge was first baseman
Shelby Oakley with two hits and three walks through four at-bats. On the mound for the start of the game was freshman
Keearrah Brown, who threw through four innings. The right-hander faced 22 batters, striking out two and allowing five earned runs and two walks. Finishing the last two innings was sophomore
Tayla Eaves, who allowed only one hit, one run, and sat down four batters through 51 pitches. The Hawks fell short 4-7 to the Greyhounds, but were able to bounce back quickly for the following game.
The Hawks were set to face the Blue Knights, where the offense stepped on the gas and didn't let up. Sofia Beckett, Oakley, and Brown added two hits apiece to the team's nine-hit total.
Ellie Ward added on to the 10 runs with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third. Oakley led the team with four RBIs, giving the Hawks some insurance with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. Outfielder
Kendall Lowery showed her patience at the plate with three walks and was hit by a pitch in her four at-bats. On the mound,
Jayde Gonet threw 3.1 innings with three hits, three runs, and three walks allowed. Eaves came in to close and held off the Knights, not allowing a single run with two hits and five strikeouts. The Hawks won big 10-3 and are ready to bounce back tomorrow for another action-packed day.
