The Heartland Hawks hosted the Lewis and Clark Trailblazers the week after they split in Godfrey, Illinois. The offense and defense were solid through both games as the Hawks scored 22 runs and did not allow a single run for the Trailblazers.
Game One showed consistent work from the offense as the Hawks scored in five out of the six innings.
Shayne Immke started things off with an RBI in the first inning to bring home
Concetta DeBord. DeBord made an impact on the field with two hits in four at-bats. The lefty slapper had two runs scored and two RBIs on the day with back-to-back stolen bases in the first inning.
Ellie Ward showed her power with a solo home run to left center in the bottom of the sixth. The team was able to rack up eight hits and six runs with three free bases. Defensively the field was sound with no errors committed.
Brooklyn Ogden took the mound for the Hawks through all seven innings. The right-handed pitcher only allowed three hits and five walks on the day. Through 27 batters faced the sophomore collected 11 strikeouts. Heartland won the contest 6-0 and came back stronger in the next game.
The Hawks took a big win over L&C with a 16-0 victory.
Tayla Eaves threw all five innings for Heartland only allowing four hits and one walk. The right-handed freshman faced 20 batters and sat down five. Offensively, the Hawks got hot and never let off the gas.
Ellie Ward led the charge going 2 for 2 with two walks. The third baseman crossed the plate for a run and drove in two.
Kendall Lowery added to the offense with two hits on three at-bats with three RBIs on the day. Collectively, the team had 14 hits and showed patience at the plate with six walks for the game. DeBord, Immke, and
Rylee Koeller each collected two hits for Heartland.
The Hawks return to play the 19th at home to face off against Parkland College in a MWAC matchup.
