In the 2024 MLB draft, two former Heartland Community College baseball players have captured the attention of scouts and fans alike. The first player,
Sam Antonacci, an infielder with range in the field as well as the ability to reach the bases more times than not. The second player,
Ben Hartl, a catcher with an arm along with an explosive bat that sets him apart. Both have been selected to help make an impact in the majors and will have successful careers in the future.
Both Hartl and Antonacci attended Heartland Community College from 2021 to 2023. They showed great promise from the start with their athletic and leadership skills. In the 2023 season, Hartl and Antonacci lead their team to a 57-5 record as well as a National Championship. They emerged as impactful leaders both on and off the field. Their performance during the games, but also their dedication to baseball is what stands them apart from the rest. The hard work shown as well as their competitive attitudes will surely be brought and amplified at the next level.
During the 2023 season with Heartland, Hartl's stats are what lead to him becoming nominated for the All-American Baseball Team. With a batting average of .420 and on base percentage of .593, Hartl was given the opportunity to attend Kansas for the 2023-2024 season. In his 45 games as a Jayhawk, Hartl had a BA of .309 and OBS% of .460 with 11 home runs and 35 RBI. In the MLB draft, Hartl was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 14
th round and was the 435
th overall pick. He will continue to make an impression on the field and we await his undoubted success at the next level.
At Heartland, Antonacci was able to make a name for himself during the 2023 season with a batting average of .515 and on base percentage of .618. With his performance he was awarded the 2023 NJCAA DII National Player of the Year and the 2024 NATYCAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. His skills along with his leadership grabbed the attention of Coastal Carolina where he attended for the 2023-2024 season. During the spring season Antonacci finished with a .367 BA and .523 OBS% starting a total of 61 games with 83 hits. In the MLB draft, Antonacci was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 5
th round and 140
