Heartland baseball will look to defend its national title from a season ago beginning Sunday, as the Hawks received the No. 4 overall seed to the NJCAA DII World Series, which will be held May 25-June 1 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Okla. The Hawks received an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the Central District Tournament last weekend.
Â
The Hawks (43-16) will open the tournament at 10 am Sunday against the winner of No. 5-seeded St. Johns River State and No. 12-seeded Westchester. Heartland defeated St. Johns River State twice in last year's tournament, with both wins coming by one run. The Vikings (38-23) received an automatic bid to the tournament as the South District Tournament champions. Westchester (31-17) qualified for nationals after winning the East District Tournament.
