Box Score 4 After falling in the District Championship, the Hawks received an at-large bid to compete in the National Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The volleyball team was ranked #5 and set to compete their first match against #12 Grand Rapids Community College.
The Hawks made quick work by finishing out the match 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-14). With the win, the team advanced to compete against the #4 ranked Richard Bland. After dropping the first set (25-22), the Hawks were able to take the next 3 (25-15, 25-16, 25-21) to advance to the semi-final match where they would compete against #1 Cowley College. After a hard fought match, the Hawks fell to the Tigers 0-3 (21-25, 20-25, 18-25).
With the loss, the women moved to the consolation bracket for an opportunity to advance to the 3rd place match. The match-up to proceed was a conference encounter with #2 ranked Parkland College. Putting the Hawks ahead of this match was Rhiannon Robertson with a total of 17 kills and Brooklyn Brennan added 23 total assists throughout the match. Defensively, Sam Molenhouse was able to add 24 digs to keep multiple volleys alive. Additionally, Halle Moomaw tacked on 6 blocks keeping the ball on Parkland's side of the net. With the 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 26-24, 25-19) win over the Cobras, the Hawks were able to compete for the title of being 3rd in the Nation.
For the final match of the 2024 season, the Hawks competed against the Kansas City Kansas Community College Blue Devils. The match was taken to a total of 5 sets with each team competing to their highest caliber. The women took the trophy home, winning 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-10). Leading the Hawks in the final match was sophomore Mairen Mannon with 17 kills and 7 blocks, and defensively sophomore libero Sam Molenhouse contributed with an astounding 41 digs. In total, the Hawks collectively had 59 kills, 14 blocks, 54 assists, and 92 digs.
Volleyball ends their season 39-8 with hard fought 3rd place finish that put the 2024 team in the history books as the first National Placement for Heartland Community Colleges Volleyball Program.
