Box Score 4 The Hawk teams had another busy week as baseball, volleyball and softball all continued play with a variety of home and away games.
The Hawk baseball team kicked off the action this week hosting a 9 inning game on Tuesday (3/2) against Lake Land College. The Lakers came into Tuesday's game with a 4-2 record. Heading into the 7
th inning, everything was tied up at 10. The Hawks scratched a run across the board in the bottom of the 7
th to take an 11-10 lead. Freshmen,
Mitchel Sampson and
Jacob Kampf combined to keep the Lakers scoreless in the final two innings, securing a Hawks win.
The Hawks got right back after it on Wednesday (3/3) as they hosted Muskegon Community College (MCC) in a double header. The Hawks came out hot, putting up seven runs in the first inning and eventually bringing home a 13-8 win. In game two, MCC got out to a quick 7-1 lead. The Hawks battled back, but couldn't close the deficit as they fell 8-4.
Volleyball also got a win on Wednesday (3/3), as they hosted Spoon River in a MWAC matchup. The Hawks won in three straight sets, posting scores of 25-19, 25-10, 25-23. With the win, the Hawks moved to a perfect 4-0 at home and 5-2 overall.
After going 2-0 in their season opener last week, the softball team looked to bring the same energy into their double header on Friday (3/5) as they traveled to Mattoon to play Lake Land College. The Hawks, however, could not find their offense on Friday as they fell 10-1 and 6-0 to the Lakers. The Hawks softball team is back on the road this week as they play multiple double headers in the Rosemont Rumble.
Moving into Saturday (3/6), baseball hit the road for their first away games of the season, traveling to Wabash Valley College (WVC) for a double header. WVC came into Saturday's games ranked #1 in the DI poll with a 7-1 record. The Hawks dropped both games of the double header with scores of 16-1 and 11-3. Baseball is back in action next weekend as they travel to Tennessee to play a pair of double headers.
Rounding out the action for the week was Hawk volleyball. The Hawks hosted a triangular on Saturday (3/6) with Illinois Central College (ICC) and Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC). ICC came into the match ranked #3 in the NJCAA DII Polls with a perfect record of 9-0. The Cougars got ahead early and took a two set lead on the Hawks. But the Hawks didn't quit. The Hawks battled back and forced a fifth set. The Hawks kept the energy high going in to set five and came all the way back to defeat the 3
rd ranked Cougars. Final set scores were 13-25, 27-29, 27-25, 25-21, 15-12.
Volleyball closed out the weekend with a match against SWIC. The Hawks won in three straight sets posting scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-16. With the wins, the Hawks stay unbeaten at home with an impressive 6-0 home record. The Hawks move to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Â

Mary Frahm, comments on her teams' 3-0 performance this week, "This was our toughest week of the season thus far and the team handled the challenge with a resilient mindset. They came in all week focused, refreshed and ready to get better which paid off against some great competition." Volleyball is back on the road next week as they travel to Carl Sandburg College for a match up with the Chargers.
