Heartland Baseball Travels to Iowa for a Quick 9 Innings

Box Score
Heartland Baseball started the week off with an away trip to West Burlington, Iowa, to face Southeastern Community College. In a game marked by several lead changes, the offense stayed consistent through the lineup, accumulating multiple hits and walks. Meanwhile, the pitching staff faced 34 batters over the 8 innings played by the defense, setting the stage for the rest of the competition.

After Southeastern took an early lead, the Hawks quickly answered in the same inning with a two-run RBI double from first baseman Jake Troyner. The sophomore finished going 1-for-2 with one run and two walks through his four at-bats. Building on Troyner's momentum, Jimmy Anderson continued his strong presence at the plate with three hits and a walk in his five plate appearances. Overall, the Hawks faced the Blackhawk defense 35 times, finding enough contact to get on base for nine hits with six runs batted in.
On the mound was a joint effort with Tyler Ledvina starting on the mound. The sophomore threw the first three innings with three hits and two runs allowed, striking out two batters in his 18 faced. Ryan Anderson followed with another three innings, throwing 50 pitches. Two runs were added to Southeastern's total with two more walks and a strikeout. Closing out the nine innings, freshman Devan Tupper threw the final two innings. While six hits were given up, only two earned runs were allowed, with no walks added to the total.

The Hawks have a quick turnaround as they face Rock Valley College for a doubleheader at home on Tuesday, April 7th.
