Heartland Baseball Alum, Sam Antonacci, Makes His MLB Debut

April 15th, 2026, was a big day for the MLB as Jackie Robinson Day took place across the country, but it also served another purpose for the Heartland Community College Athletic Department. Sam Antonacci got the call that he would be stepping onto the big stage after spending 2024-2026 in the minors.

Antonacci attended Heartland Community College from 2021 to 2023, where he earned the 2023 NJCAA DII National Player of the Year. The shortstop made a huge impact with a batting average of .515 and an on-base percentage of .618 with a strong range in the field, coupled with a high baseball IQ.

Following his time as a Hawk, Antonacci became a Chanticleer when he made the move to DI Baseball at Coastal Carolina University. His work ethic and performance continued to propel him into the 2024 MLB Draft, where the Chicago White Sox selected the utility player in the 5th round, 140th overall.

As Antonacci played on, his consistency didn't go unnoticed as he continued to climb the ladder through the minors. In over 500 at-bats, he put up impressive numbers, hitting with an average of .299 and an OBP of 160 hits and 101 walks.

The World Baseball Classic was a performance to talk about for Antonacci, as he represented Team Italy one month ago in March. Moving through the middle infield, the left-handed batter played well on the field and at the plate.

On April 14th, Antonacci received the call to move up, making the following day his Major League Baseball Debut at Rate Field. Playing second base and batting fifth looked like a good fit for the former Hawk as he accumulated his first hit in his first at-bat and plated a run on a passed ball after reaching first with a walk in the ninth. In the field, the second basemen made the plays that came his way, whether routine or just within his reach.

This is only the beginning, and know that more things await. Congratulations go out to the Heartland Alumni, and we can't wait to see what else he will accomplish in the future.
