    The Heartland Hawks returned to the Corn Crib on the last day of February to compete against the Madison College Wolfpack. This matchup would conclude Heartland's games for the first-ever Winter Classic held at the Corn Crib, which featured nine games over a three-day span.
    The Heartland bats were hot as they outshone Madison College with 16 hits compared to the Wolfpack's 14. The Hawks were able to get on the board first with a groundout fielder's choice from
Daniel Bastidas in the first inning of play. They were able to add four more runs to the total the following inning as outfielders Cam Steinbaugh and
Bennett Summers collected an RBI each. Shortstop
Jimmy Anderson added the other two runs with a home run to left. The offense continued to add to their lead in the third as
Chase Peterson doubled, Steinbaugh singled, and Summers hit a sac fly to each score a run. Steinbaugh led the Hawks, going 3-for-5 on the day.
Jake Troyner and
TJ Jakubowski were also able to add on three hits through the 9-inning game. Showing a strong outing on the mound was sophomore
Trevor Rehnstrom, who threw six innings, allowing seven hits, one run, and sat down a total of 10 batters through 23 batters faced.
Tyler Ledvina and
Andy Antonacci finished the last three innings in total, giving up five hits, one earned run, and adding two more strikeouts to the pitching staff's total.
    The Hawks ride out the win for the week before they return to the Corn Crib for a doubleheader. Heartland hosts the Danville Community College Jaguars for their first conference games of the year on Friday, March 6th.
