Hawks are on the road for a two-day, four-game conference match against Vincennes University. Baseball took the series 4-0 with 37 runs and 45 hits.
Heartland took game one with a 13-1 victory. The offense got to work early with a run in the first and sealed the win scoring six runs in the fourth and fifth inning.
Kaden Griffitts led at the plate going 3 for 4 with a walk and two runs. The outfielder homered to right field scoring two runners before touching the plate himself.
Tony Konopiots added action from the plate with a two-run home run in the fourth.
Tommy Atkinson also continued with two runs and two RBIs going 3 for 3 on the day. Right-handed pitcher
Jake Gimbel earned the win for the Hawks pitching all five innings only allowing three hits, surrendering one free base, and sitting down five.
In Game Two, the Hawks remained hot at the plate with 13 hits across the board. Konopiots led the charge with two hits in four at-bats.
Brady Davidson gave Heartland the lead with a homer in the third, scoring two runs. The designated hitter accumulated four RBIs through the seven-inning contest. Also adding to the chaos was catcher
Jake Parpet with three runs and four RBIs on two hits.
Patrick Gardner started things off defensively pitching 2.1 innings only allowing one hit and run with three strikeouts.
Trevor Rehnstrom earned the win by coming in to clean up with 4.2 innings pitched with two runs and four hits allowed. The hurler faced 18 batters without giving up a free base and adding three strikeouts on the day. The Hawks took game two over the Trailblazers 11-3.
Day two held a late comeback win for the Hawks as they scored two runs in the top of the seventh to secure the 3-2 victory.
Dylan Nagle held Vincennes down at the plate throwing six innings with seven hits and eight strikeouts on the day.
Ryan Anderson collected the save for the Hawks throwing the last inning of the contest. The right-handed pitcher faced four batters only allowing one hit and collected a strikeout. Offensively, Heartland was quiet at the plate collecting seven hits. After being down 2-1 in the seventh, Griffitts was able to pull the Hawks ahead with a double, scoring two runs. At the plate, the top of the lineup showed patience in their at-bats with
Max Hennemann taking three free bases while
Jesse Contreras earned two.
The final contest of the series ended no different for the Hawks as they took the win 10-2. The team had nine hits in 28 at-bats. Showing a major presence at the plate was Griffitts going 2 for 4 with two runs. #3 collected a total of four RBIs when he singled in the fourth inning, scoring two runs, and hit a home run in the seventh, scoring two more. Atkinson and Konopiots each contributed with a double and scoring two runs apiece. The pitching staff went to work as
Jimmy Amptmann starting things off at the mound and earning the win. The right-handed pitcher threw four innings surrendering three hits and one run.
Tyler Ledvina came in for two innings only allowing one run and walk with three strikeouts. To finish the game off,
Michael Belbot threw a scoreless inning to secure the win.
The Hawks take the rest of the weekend off before returning home for a nine-inning contest against Carl Sandburg College.
