Box Score 4 Over the weekend, the Hawks played down south in Millington, Tennessee for the 2025 Babe Howard JUCO Classic. The games were held at USA Stadium with tough competition invading the fields. For the weekend, the Hawks were looking to help improve their 2-5 start to the season and did so from the first game.
The first competitor in the way was Wabash Valley College which the Hawks had previously lost to in every other contest. After Heartland trailed the four innings, they would flip the script by scoring five runs on five hits in the top of the fifth, taking the lead at 7-5.
Throughout the entirety of the game, the Hawks would have 12 hits total.
Kaden Griffitts led the charge going 3 for 4.
Patrick Gardner,
Brady Davidson,
Jake Parpet, and
Bennett Summers all took a turn driving in two runs for the Hawks. Defensively,
Logan Barnett started on the mound with eight strikeouts and only allowed four hits through four innings. Dylan Nagel would finish up the contest and collect the save. In the end, Heartland took the victory with a 9-6 finish and looked ahead to nationally ranked Kirkwood Community College.
The Hawks were unable to find a spark against Kirkwood on Friday.
Jacob O'Day took the mound going four innings only allowing four hits while striking out four batters as well. The defense was solid, committing no errors during the contest. Offensively,
Jimmy Anderson and Garder each collected one hit for the Heartland. The Hawks would end the day splitting and ready to come back the next day.
The next day started against Mississippi Delta Community College.
Tanner Spangler would earn the win for the Hawks while only giving up two hits and one run during his time on the mound.
Michael Belbot followed throwing three innings, giving up no runs and striking out three to end the game. At the plate, Griffitts would again lead the Hawks with two hits.
Tommy Atkinson,
Max Hennemann, Anderson, Davidson, and Parpet each added on a hit. The Hawks ended the contest with a 6-1 win against the Trojans.
Following the first game, Heartland would match up against Ellsworth Community College. The Hawks started things off early scoring 11 runs in the second inning.
Daniel Bastidas led the Hawks with two doubles on the day and drove in five runs. Securing the lead in the third inning,
Luke Ramsey hit a grand slam to right field. At the mound was
Trevor Rehnstrom only allowing three hits while striking out eight. Rehnstrom would earn the win as the Hawks defeated the Panthers 15-3.
For the final day of the Babe Howard JUCO Classic, the Hawks would face Wabash once again in a nine-inning match up. Parpet would start things off when he singled in the second, scoring one run. Anderson would contribute at the plate in the third with a two-run home run to left field. Gardner would take his turn on the mound by striking out nine and walking two in six innings.
Jimmy Amptmann and
Lance Kiesewetter each took the mound each allowing zero hits. The Hawks came out on top with a 7-2 victory and improved their record to 6-6.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, March, 8th when they start conference play against Illinois Central College at the Corn Crib.
