With the District Championship 3-0 victory over Schoolcraft College, the Heartland Women's Soccer team punched its ticket to the National Tournament. At the end of the week, the Hawks will travel to Wichita, Kansas, for a chance to win the Title.
Going into the final postseason play, the team was anxiously waiting to see their ranking for the tournament and their competitors for pool play. With a 14-3-1 record, the Hawks are outscoring opponents 92-12 and averaging 25 shots per game. Going into the ranking, the Women's team was sitting #3 and stayed there for the tournament selection. In their bracket, the Hawks start tournament play against #10 Sussex County Community College on Sunday, November 16th. A few days later, on the 18th, the Hawks are set to face #6 Pima College. Babson commented on his expectations for the upcoming matches: "We're anticipating some really challenging games. We're excited to play against the top teams in the nation."
The Hawks have remained steady through the last few weeks of regular-season play with an 11-game win streak. Babson notes the quality of play this team has created and how they hope to continue to perform that way in the future, saying, "I'm really excited to get on the road with this team. We're playing well and hoping to continue with the momentum we've built from the season. It's been a positive season, but we have high expectations. We have our sights set on making it to the final four, and we're confident we can compete with anyone; we just have to get there first.
The Hawks are set to leave to head down south for Kansas on Friday, November 14th. Beforehand, Babson comments on a few details that need to be polished before the trip, "We need some extra attention to the defensive side of things, individually and as a team, the defense needs to be brushed up". With the accumulation of the team and Coach Babson, their determination to win will be a force to beat in the National Tournament.
