On Wednesday, October 1st, the Heartland Men's Soccer team took to the pitch in hopes of maintaining the momentum built from the previous match against John Wood Community College. Illinois Valley Community College traveled to the Corn Crib, hoping to gain its fourth win, while the Hawks looked to do the same.
With intense stakes came intense pressure from the Eagles as the match started off with defense-heavy play from both sides of the field. The Hawks continued to push towards the net as they were able to draw calls resulting in a penalty kick in the first half of the match. After
Amin Zamani hits the crossbar,
Keegan Anderson comes in to clean it up, putting the Hawks ahead 1-0. Zamani followed and gained redemption as he found the back of the net thanks to a ball from Gabe Tonks from the outside. After the first half, the Hawks were up 2-0 and ready to finish the match. Rounding out the goals was sophomore forward
Guilherme Tomas with an assist from Zamani.
The Hawks most to a 4-5 record and will have the chance to improve to a .500 on Saturday, October 4th, to play against St. Louis Community College.Â
