Box Score 4 The men's and women's soccer teams started off the week with an overnight trip in Mississippi. Following the trip, the women proceeded to play at home for a single match on Saturday before both teams would return for a match up against Lewis and Clark in Godfrey, IL.
The women started things off in Mississippi where they faced Holmes Community College ending in a 4-3 victory. The following day, they would go head to head with the #1 nationally ranked Northwest Mississippi Community College ending in the Lady Hawks first loss on the season at 2-3. During the second match,
Valeria Agudelo led the Hawks with a penalty kick in the 60
th minute. The PK was followed by a goal from
Valentina Bernal, assisted by Paula Bonilla in the 62
nd minute.
The men also ended their road trip going 1-1 with a victory over Itawamba (1-0) and a 1-2 loss against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. During the match,
Joe Delaney was able to find the back of the net in the 8
th minute, but the Hawks were unable to score the remainder of the match.
The women returned to the Corn Crib the following Saturday to face Iowa Central Community College, ending in a 2-0 shutout. Jada Lee was able to score with an assist from
Ainara Aldeano. Aldeano was able to add another goal in the 74
th minute to seal the deal for the Hawks.
During the away match the women would kick things off with their first tie of the season with a final score of 1-1. Securing the tie for the women's team was
Floor Assmann scoring in the 78
th minute. The men would follow with a scoreless first half. In the 60
th minute,
Noa Bader would score first to put Heartland ahead 1-0 before Lewis and Clark would have an early answer and finishing things off leaving the Hawks with a 1-2 loss.
To end the week, the women would compete on the 7
th against Rock Valley at the Corn Crib. Leading the Hawks was
Maria Hernandez starting things off in the 22
nd minute of the first half and finishing the match with a second goal in the 79
th minute. Also finding the back of the net for the Hawks was
Paula Igual and
Karima Marhabi in the second half.
Men's and Women's team will both return on the 11
th for their first conference match ups against the Parkland Cobras. Â Â
