Box Score 4 The Heartland Hawks Volleyball team started the season off with a 4-0 record at the Opening Weekend Tournament in Rockford, Illinois. They began the tournament against Mott Community College followed by Enterprise State Community College, defeating both on Friday. The Hawks finished the tournament with victories over South Mountain Community College and Rend Lake College the following day.
In the first match of the weekend, the Hawks defeated Mott in a 4-set win (25-9, 25-15, 22-25, 25-15).
Graci Junis finished the match with 14 kills, while
Addison Qualters added 22 assists. Ending the Match with 19 digs was
Sam Molenhouse.
Heartland returned that evening to face Enterprise who took the first set (27-29) before the Hawks responded with three straight sets to win the match (25-13, 25-15, 25-19).
Rhiannon Robertson had 11 kills and 7 blocks, with
Mairen Mannon contributing 11 blocks.
Saturday mornings match led to a 3-set victory over South Mountain CC (25-11, 25-21, 25-13). The match ended with Robertson reporting 14 kills,
Brooklyn Brennan adding 17 assists, and Molenhouse contributing 12 digs.
The final match of the tournament ended in another 3-set victory over Rend Lake College (25-17, 25-21, 25-13), which moved them to a 4-0 sweep for the weekend. Junis contributed to the win with 10 kills throughout the match. Brennan and Qualters also added to the victory with 17 and 15 assists, respectively.
The Hawks return with their home opening match up against Spoon River College Wednesday night at the FRC.
