Heartland Hawks Soccer Kick Off the Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 This Thursday the Women's and Men's Soccer team opened the season this week with victories and a loss. The women went 2-0 on the week while the men went 1-1. In the matches on Sunday, both the men and women had a solid start while never taking their foot off the gas.
 
The Women's team started off the season with an impressive showing, beating Southeastern Iowa 10-0. Ainara Aldeano attacked first in the 6th minute of the match, unassisted. Aldeano was able to increase the lead quickly after the first, finding the net once again in the 15th minute of the match up with an assist by Isabella Hernandez. 
 
As the match continued, the Hawks were able hold off Southeastern while stretching the lead. Maria Hernandez was able to secure two goals during the match, both unassisted. Valentina Bernal, Carla Vizuete, Isabella Hernandez, Floor Assmann, Valeria Agudelo, and Alyssa Bovis all had one goal throughout the rest of the match.
 
The Men followed the Women's team Thursday afternoon at the Corn Crib in a face-off with Southeastern Iowa. While the Men were able to produce 5 shots on goal, 3 coming from Joe Delaney, they remained scoreless throughout the 90-minute match up.
 
On Sunday, the women's team returned to the Corn Crib and hosted Schoolcraft College which ended in a 6-0 victory. The Hawks remained scoreless through the first 30 minutes until Agudelo added 2 goals in the 31st and 34th minute, both assisted by Maria Hernandez. During the rest of the match up Laura Suarez, Paula Ana Igual Boni, YeYe Padilla, and Karima Marhabi contributed with a goal each.
 
The men followed with a match up against DuPage college which ended in a 5-1 win. DuPage remained scoreless until the 85th minute while the Hawks tacked on 5 goals throughout the match. Luca Hubner lead the Hawks with 2 goals at the beginning and end of the match. Shaquiel Campbell contributed by adding on a goal with 2 assists. Dani Vidal and Delaney each had a goal apiece to help solidify the victory.
 
The Hawks season continues with a road trip to Mississippi on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Women will face Holmes College and Northwestern Mississippi while the Men challenge Itawamba and Mississippi Gulf Coast.
