Box Score 4 After winning the Region tournament, the women would have one more obstacle to face before advancing to the National Tournament. The Hawks first traveled up to Michigan to face Kellogg Community College in the District Championship at the beginning of the month. Ainara Aldeano was able to set the tone early with an unassisted goal in the 4th minute of the match. The Hawks were able to solidify the win with an additional goal by Vivana Sanchez in the second half. With the win, the women became the District Champions and advanced to the National Tournament where they ranked #3 in the nation.
The women started pool play against #6 Pima Community College with the ending score of 3-1 in favor of the Hawks. Valentina Bernal started things off with a goal in the 19th minute with the assist from Valeria Agudelo. To finish off the match, 2 more goals were tacked on in the second half by Floor Assmann and Bernal. Keeper, Alice Arrigucci, also had a total of 8 saves that maintained the lead for the Hawks. The second pool play game was a match up against #10 Pensacola State College with the Hawks running away with the win at 10-1. The first half consisted of 6 goals with the rest being followed in the second. Bernal took charge with a hat trick during this match and with the win, the women advanced to regular tournament play.
For the first match of tournament play, the Hawks faced the #2 ranked Johnson County Community College. The entire first half was a battle of defense with 45 minutes of play remaining scoreless on both ends. Starting the second half, Johnson County found the back of the net early but before the 90 minutes, YeYe Padilla tied up the score. After two scoreless overtimes, the match would be decided by a penalty kick shootout. After many back and forth shots, the Hawks fell 8-9.
The women ended the season going 20-1-2 and had an historic season outsourcing their opponents 132-14. The Hawks dominated the season and remained persistent throughout every match up. Before the season completes concluded, All-American honors were distributed to 4 of the women and are as follows:
