Women vs. Western Iowa Tech
The women's team kicked-off the week with a home matchup against Western Iowa Tech on Wednesday night. Despite near-record high temperatures earlier in the day, the heat was no match for the Hawks in a 9-0 victory over the visiting Comets.
Valentina Bernal finished the game with a hat trick, scoring in the 13
th, 25
th and 50
th minutes.
Â
Maria Hernandez ignited the scoring with a goal in the eighth minute, and was followed by a
Yeirdan Padilla score just moments later in the 10

Jada Mia Lee contributed two more goals (63
rd and 84
th), while
Ellie Hill (81

Â
Men vs. Western Iowa Tech
In a heated battle until the very end on Wednesday at The Corn Crib, the men's team jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage before the Comets stormed back to eventually tie the contest at 2-2.
Sebastian Padilla found the net for the Hawks in the 10
th minute off of a
Mohammad Sanyang assist, and was followed shortly after by
Joe Delaney's goal in the 14
th minute with
Marvin Mueller contributing the assist.
Â
From there, the Hawks struggled to execute on their scoring opportunities, as the Comets slowly creeped back into the game. Western Iowa Tech scored goals in the 35
th minute to make it 2-1, and another in the 69
th minute to tie the contest at 2-2. Goalkeeper
Kevin Lambert contributed six goals for the Hawks, but the Comets' defense held strong in the 2-2 tie.
Â
Women vs. Lewis & Clark
The Hawks took to the road for the first time this season on Saturday, as they traveled to Lewis & Clark to take on the Trailblazers. For the women's team, it was a rematch of a home contest from Aug. 18 that saw the Hawks end the game with a 2-0 victory. Saturday was much of the same, yet this time it was just one goal that proved to be the difference for the Hawks. Bernal continued her impressive tear to begin the year with the game's lone goal in the 55
th minute on a long through ball that was assisted by Mosquera. Mosquera finished with three saves for the Hawks to keep her scoreless streak alive as Heartland improved to 3-0.
Â
Men vs. Lewis & Clark
Lewis & Clark supplied a goal in each half in Saturday's men's game to pull-out a 2-0 victory. The Trailblazers took little time to get on the board, as they scored just one minute into the contest. The home team would add another score in the 64
th minute to build a little cushion. Despite limiting Lewis & Clark's offensive opportunities, the Hawks struggled to muster many shots of their own as they finished with just eight shots, five of which were on goal.
