Game Recap: Volleyball | | Blaine Lewallen

Volleyball Improves to 18-5

Heartland volleyball entered last week enjoying a five-game winning streak before traveling to Parkland College on Wednesday. The Hawks then hosted a round robin with John Wood Community College and Harper College at the FRC on Saturday.

The Hawks struggled in the early going on Wednesday before ultimately falling 3-0 to the No. 3-ranked Cobras. Heartland dropped the first two sets 25-16 and 25-15 before narrowly losing set three 25-23. Samantha Hovey finished the contest with 23 assists, while Kennedy Conrad led the dig category with 21. Katlin Dean followed that with 8 kills.

On Saturday, the Hawks were able to get back on track with two victories to improve to 18-5 on the season. John Wood was the opening opponent for Heartland Saturday morning, and the Hawks took little time to defeat the Blazers. Hovey (24 assists, 11 digs) and Conrad (27 digs) once again led the Hawks, while Lauren Strange poured in 13 kills.

After the Blazers faced-off with Harper College in the middle contest, the Hawks again dominated Harper in the nightcap for another 3-0 sweep. Dean had 14 digs and 5 kills in the match for Heartland, with Hovey finishing with 22 assists. Strange and Emma Harper added 8 kills apiece.

The Hawks will return to action at 6 pm Wednesday, as they welcome Lewis & Clark to the FRC.
