Box Score 3 The Heartland soccer program picked up three wins this past week, as the men's team pulled-off a 1-0 victory over Lewis and Clark Community College on Wednesday before both the men's and women's teams were winners Saturday against John Wood Community College.

The Hawks finished Wednesday's contest with 8 shots, 3 of which were on goal. Goalkeeper
Gonzalo Castells finished with 4 saves on the evening. The lone score of the game came in the 50
th minute, when
Mario Sapena sunk what would be the game-winner for Heartland.

On Saturday, the women's team carried this momentum over into a 10-0 dominate win over John Wood. Three Hawks finished the game with a hat trick, with
Lina Lopez leading the way with 3 goals and 6 assists.
Destiny Reyes and
Zara Dominguez also finished with hat tricks.
Sammie Shanks contributed the other goal for Heartland, which shot 37 times, with 21 of the shots being on goal.

In the second game at the Corn Crib Saturday afternoon, the men's team went to battle with John Wood in a very evenly-contested matchup.
Jaedyn Saunders kicked-off the scoring for Heartland with a goal in the 52
nd minute, assisted by
Raul Sanchez. The Blazers would tie things later in the second half in the 74
th minute, eventually sending the game to overtime. After both squads held tough in the first overtime period, a penalty kick by
Jino Agbassa snuck past the outstretched arms of the goalie of John Wood and the Hawks escaped with their second double-overtime win of the young season.

Heartland's women's team will be back in action at 12 pm Saturday at Lincoln Land Community College before both squads return home at 3 and 5 pm on Sept. 21 against Southwestern Illinois College.
