Heartland Men's and Women's Soccer opened up their seasons with games against Southeastern yesterday, where the men fell 3-0 in the early game and the women dominated the later game winning 8-0.

Men's Soccer: No. 18 Southeastern def. RV Heartland 3-0
Men's Soccer faced a tough opening match up yesterday, and that was evident in the first 15 minutes of the game. Goalkeeper Hardy Muguet-Zaou made a timely save in the box before committing a foul to grant the Blackhawks the first chance of the game on a PK. Southeastern forward Joshua Barboza did not waste the opportunity and slotted it in. Just moments later, Southeastern midfielder Ethan Murphy put one in the net to push the lead to two goals. Heartland began to settle in and get some chances as the game went on. Muguet Zaou made two huge saves to keep the deficit at two after a corner from Southeastern at the 34^th minute. Unfortunately, the Blackhawks were able to play keep away for a majority of the game and limited the number of chances for the Hawks. Forward Gabriele Proietti and left wing Lukas Saccon led the way with two shots each for the Hawks.

Women's Soccer: No. 2 Heartland def. Southeastern 8-0
It was pure domination from start to finish for the women's squad. Heartland CAM Jasmin Geronimo kicked off the scoring in the 15^th minute. After that Heartland never looked back. Geronimo scored just 4 minutes later to go into Hat Trick watch. In the 32^nd minute, left wing Josy Rogel added her first goal of the season and 17^th of her career. In the 43^rd minute, midfielder Regina Salazar Mendez added the first goal of her Heartland career. To cap off an incredible first half, Geronimo potted a hat trick in her first collegiate game. Heartland coasted the rest of the way, adding goals from center midfielder Dayana Tellez, and two from forward Desiree Fassin – the first two of her career. It was the third goal of Tellez's career, as well.

Men's Soccer is back in action next Friday against Grand Rapids CC in Grand Rapids, MI. Women's Soccer will play again this Sunday against No. 10 Rock Valley College in the JUCO Kickoff Classic in Indianapolis, IN.
