Earlier in the week, on the 29th, the Heartland Hawks took on the Lake Land Lakers for the third time this season for Kids Day, hosted by the Corn Belters. The 6,500 kids in attendance watched as the Hawks (36-13) run-ruled the Lakers in seven innings.
In the first inning, the Lakers put up two to hold the only lead they would have all game. On a hit and fielder's choice, Lake Land went up two while the Hawks could only respond with one run in the bottom of the first. For the rest of the contest, the bats got hot and never cooled off as they scored 12 runs on 16 hits through seven. Leading the lineup #5,
Brady Davidson in the clean-up spot going 4-for-5 with five RBIs and a run. In the bottom of the second, Davidson made solid contact to sail a ball over the left-center fence for a three-run homer.
Jimmy Anderson also added a home-to-home trot in the fifth with a two-run shot, making the score 11-2. The shortstop was two-for-three with a walk and run. Finishing things off offensively was none other than Davidson as he doubled to center scoring
Charlie Linderman for the walk-off win. The pitching staff put in the work to hold the Lakers to two runs on only one hit. Sophomore
Logan Barnett started on the mound throwing two innings only allowing one hit and two runs with two strikeouts in his outing.
Casey Giemzik followed with two innings pitched not allowing a single hit or run. To finish off the matchup, lefty
Patrick Gardner threw the last three innings with no hits and no runs allowed. The sophomore faced 10 batters and sat down four.
The final regular season play is today at the Corn Crib at 1:00 & 4:00 PM against Spoon River College.
