On Monday, Softball was on the road for a conference matchup against the John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois. The Hawks took both games, outscoring the Blazers 25-8 through the doubleheader. This makes the fourth conference matchup for Heartland where they are now ranked fourth in the DII Region 24 standings.
Game one started with Heartland getting on the board early never letting off the gas. After starting the game with a run, the Hawks scored five in the third to pull ahead and four in the fourth to cushion their lead. Offensively, the team collected nine hits and eleven runs. Leading the Hawks was sophomore shortstop
Shayne Immke went 4 for 4 with four RBIs.
Concetta DeBord contributed at the plate with two hits, two runs, and two stolen bags. Defensively the Hawks were solid with no errors and a double play in the field.
Cara Farnam earned the win on the mound only allowing six hits and two runs. The right-handed pitcher had four strikeouts and only allowed one free base through five innings since the Hawks run-ruled the Blazers 11 to 2.
Game two started a bit differently as the Blazers got on the board first with four runs in the first. The Hawks responded big when they scored twelve runs in the third on ten hits. The team collected sixteen hits in five innings with multiple players having multiple hits. DeBord, Farnam, and
Brooklyn Ogden each had three hits and two runs. Farnam made the biggest impact securing nine total bases from an inside-the-park homerun, triple, and a double. Ogden earned the win on the mound only allowing two hits and two runs through four innings pitched. The final for game two was 14 to 6 in favor of Heartland.
The Hawks return to play at home for the rest of the week. Tomorrow they host St. Louis Community College followed by another conference matchup against Lincoln Land Community College this weekend.
