Hawks Drop Two to Lincoln Land, Danville

    Heartland Softball took on two conference matchups Saturday against Lincoln Land Community College and Sunday against Danville Area Community College. The Hawks walked away without a win on the weekend. 

    Hawks hosted Lincoln Land on Saturday, April 12th. Offense was hard to come by in game one with only two hits being collected. The Loggers held the home team to no runs in the 9-0 win in six innings. Concetta DeBord was the lone batter to find the gaps going 2 for 3 on the day. Shayne Immke recorded three walks in three at-bats with two stolen bags. Brooklyn Ogden took the loss for the Hawks pitching 1.2 innings and surrendering five runs (two earned). Kendyl Hurt came in for relief allowing six hits and four runs. 
Game two was a tough fight between the Hawks and Loggers. Offensively, the bats were turned on as the team collected 12 hits. Kendyl Hurt, Cara Farnam, DeBord, Immke, and Ogden each collected two hits for Heartland. DeBord and Ogden were both able to get on base with two walks each. At the mound, Farnam took the loss pitching all seven innings and giving up six runs on nine hits. The Hawks lost the contest 6-5 in a hard-fought battle. 

    The next day, the Hawks went on the road to face Danville Area Community College. The 11-inning duel was a back-and-forth endeavor that consisted of a total of 27 runs at the end of the contest. Through 46 at-bats, the Hawks recorded 13 runs on 15 hits with five walks. Immke led the charge with three hits and two walks through six at-bats. Farnam started on the mound for the first five innings giving up seven runs, only three being earned. Hurt took the loss at the mound for the Hawks after pitching 5.2 innings. The sophomore let up six runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. 
    The second game was a battle at the mound before the Jaguars scored in the fifth inning to put them ahead and secure the win. The Hawks lost 1-3 in the seven-inning game. Tayla Eaves took the loss throwing every inning giving up seven hits but added on two strikeouts. Bailey Brooks added the only RBI for the Hawks. The sophomore catcher also contributed a run and walk. Collectively, the team tacked on six hits with two walks to finish out the doubleheader. 

    The Hawks return to conference play today against Illinois Central College in East Peoria before they return to the Corn Crib on Wednesday to face ICC once again.
