Softball Makes Their Corn Crib Debut

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2     Heartland Softball has been ready to make a statement and were able to do so for their home opener in the beginning of March. Starting the season, the Hawks were set to face Waubonsee Community College. The two teams haven't faced one another since 2021 and Heartland has yet to lose a game to the Chiefs.

    The Hawks started strong against Waubonsee as the team started scoring runs and never stopped. Cara Farnam led the Hawks with a total of three RBIs. Natalie Nenne went 2-for-3 at the plate, leading the team in hits. Additionally, the team showed patience at the plate with six walks throughout the game. Concetta DeBord and Shayne Immke added to the mix with two free passes each. Defensively, Farnam earned the win pitching five innings and only allowing one run on three hits. Farnam ended the day with a total of five strikeouts and giving up only one free base. The Hawks ended up run-ruling with a score of 9-1.

    Game two started no different as the Hawks jumped on early and continued scoring throughout the game. Madi Smith and DeBord showed up for the Hawks with two hits apiece. Smith was able to keep her bat hot with four RBIs and DeBord caused chaos on the bases with a total of three SB. Erin Anderson, Immke, Nenne, Natalie Nicholson, Kaitlyn Robinson, and Ellie Ward added a hit each making a total of 10 hits for the team. At the mound, Tayla Eaves earned the win pitching all seven innings with eight strikeouts and only allowing one walk.

    The Heartland Hawks are ready to start conference play tomorrow against Lincoln Land Community College and return home for another conference match-up against Danville Area Community College on Tuesday, March 25th.
