As the new year approaches, so will the look of Heartland softball. The 2025 season begins tomorrow in light of a new coaching staff as well as a new mission. Krystal Goodman, in her first year as the head coach for Heartland softball, is ready to make a statement to the conference. When asked about her expectations for this program, Goodman commented "This group will show that Heartland is not to be looked over." The team and herself are looking to make an impression as they travel to Dothan, Alabama for two days' worth of competition.
The former Junior College competitor as well as a Division I athlete, Goodman is ready to make a difference among the players she coaches now. As a new head coach, her motivation stems from the positive life-changing experience she had as a JUCO athlete. Goodman explains, "Through coaching, I strive to share the passions that I have for the game with the next group of young student-athletes so that they might find joy and learn important life lessons that way that I did."
The returning class consists of 12 players all ranging in position. The Hawks will welcome back pitchers
Kendyl Hurt and
Kaitlyn Robinson. Hurt contributed greatly to the previous seasons with 62 innings pitches and ending with a 5.39 ERA. Robinson also took a major part with 40 innings pitched and a total of 31 strikeouts to finish the season. Also making a return is sophomore outfielder
Concetta DeBord and infield
Shayne Immke. To wrap up the 2025 season, DeBord finished with a .473 batting average with 80 hits and Immke contributed with a .459 average and an on-base percentage of .539.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to play ball with THIS group," Goodman said. "I was blessed with a team of genuine competitors and even more so outstanding human beings. Getting to see them put all the hard work they've put in out on display is so exciting!"
The 2025 season kicks off on Friday the 7th where the Hawks will compete in a doubleheader against Central Alabama Community College and Chipola College. The following day, their matchups consist of Miami-Dade and South Union State. The home opener for the Hawks is scheduled for March 7th against Lake Land College for a doubleheader starting at noon.
