Heartland softball was back in action for three games this past weekend, as the Hawks split a doubleheader with Danville Area Community College. The Hawks also fell to Lincoln Land 5-3 at home on Friday before rain ended game two in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Hawks move to 14-15 (1-2) on the year.
Game 1Â vs. Lincoln Land
The Hawks returned home for a doubleheader against Lincoln Land on Friday. Four runs in the fourth inning by the Loggers ignited them to a 5-3 win over the Hawks.

An
Erin Anderson double gave the Hawks their first run of the contest in the fourth to make it 4-1, but the Loggers would add another tally in the sixth to make it 5-1. Hicks scored two runs on a sacrifice in the seventh, but it was not enough as the Loggers held on.

The second game of the day was postponed due to weather in the bottom of the fifth, with the Hawks trailing 5-4 with two runners on and no outs.

Game 2 @ Danville
Heartland concluded the weekend with a doubleheader at Danville Area Community College on Sunday. The Hawks picked up a 6-3 win in the opening game of the day, scoring three times in the opening frame. DeBord doubled home two runs before eventually scoring on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

RBI singles by Immke and Downing in the second extended the lead to 5-0. Anderson added an RBI groundout in the fourth to give the Hawks a 6-0 advantage. Danville scored once in the sixth and twice in the seventh, but
Amber Teimeyer worked her way out of trouble and the Hawks won the opening game of the afternoon.

Kendyl Hurt registered the win for the Hawks in 6.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts. DeBord and Benedict each had a pair of hits for the Hawks.

Game 3Â @ Danville
The final game of the weekend saw the Hawks fall in walk-off fashion, 10-9, at the hand of the Jaguars. Immke ignited the scoring for the Hawks in the third with a grand slam. Danville Area scored twice in the bottom of the inning before a Benedict two-RBI double made it 6-2 in the fourth. The Jaguars would later score five times in the fifth and another in the sixth to take an 8-6 lead.

RBI hits by Anderson and Morefield put Heartland back in front at 9-8 in the seventh, but a two-run, two-out double by the Jaguars in the bottom of the frame granted the home team a walk-off win. Benedict led the Hawks with two hits in the contest.

The Hawks return to action at 2 pm Wednesday for a doubleheader at Rock Valley College.
