Heartland softball got back in the win column on Friday, as the Hawks won a pair of games against Lewis and Clark Community College at The Corn Crib. The Hawks (16-15, 3-2) defeated the Trailblazers 10-2 in game one before taking game two 11-3.

Game 1
The Hawks scored eight runs in the first two frames of Friday's opening game to defeat Lewis and Clark 10-2 in six innings. After the Trailblazers opened the contest with a pair of runs in the first, Heartland responded with five runs to take a 5-2 advantage in the bottom of the first.

Landes Benedict opened the frame with a walk, and
Shayne Immke followed with an RBI-triple.
Ellie Downing added a sacrifice fly to score Immke moments later to make it 2-2. After
Erin Anderson and Madi Smith both reached on errors,
Raeghan Morefield delivered a three-run homer to center field to give the Hawks a 5-2 lead.

Lewis and Clark recorded two quick outs in the second inning, but the Hawks tacked-on three more tallies as Immke singled before RBI hits by Downing,
Concetta DeBord and Anderson made it 8-2 in favor of the Hawks.

Benedict would add a run-scoring double in the third to extend the advantage to 9-2. DeBord closed the contest out in the sixth with an RBI single to score Benedict. DeBord finished with three hits for the Hawks, while Immke and Morefield each had two hits.

Game 2
The Hawks jumped out to an early advantage in game two as well. After walks by Immke and DeBord and a hit-by-pitch by Downing loaded the bases in the bottom of the first, Immke scored on a wild pitch before Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Morefield added an RBI-single to make it 3-0 in favor of the Hawks.

Heartland added three more tallies in the second, as walks by Benedict and Immke set up a three-run home run by Downing to give the Hawks a 6-0 lead. The Trailblazers narrowed the deficit with three runs in the third, but the Hawks had an answer in the bottom of the frame.

Morefield hit a solo shot to begin the scoring in the frame, which was followed by a
Kennadi Rico walk and a
Sadie Christensen hit-by-pitch. Moments later, Benedict drove in both Rico with a single to make it 8-3. Immke followed with a two-run triple as the Hawks enjoyed a 10-3 advantage.

Christensen scored the final run of the contest with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Morefield paced the Hawks with three hits in the game.

The Hawks return to action for a doubleheader at Illinois Central College beginning at 3 pm on Wednesday.
