Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Blaine Lewallen

Men's Soccer Wins Twice

Heartland men's soccer continued its mid-season resurgence last week, as the Hawks have now won three straight matches after home wins over Southwestern Illinois College and John Wood Community College. The Hawks currently sit at 4-3-2 on the season ahead of a conference matchup at No. 7 Parkland on Thursday.

Game 1 vs. SWIC
The Hawks began the week with a solid performance on Thursday against Southwestern Illinois College at The Corn Crib, defeating the Blue Storm 4-2. Raul Oliu led Heartland with a hat trick, while Daniel Richards contributed the other score for the Hawks.

Oliu connected on a free kick in the 18th minute, and followed that with goals on penalty kicks in the 29th and 85th minutes. Richards found the net in the 34th minute, with Rodrigo Gomez supplying the assist. SWIC's Garey Mills tied the contest at 1-1 in the 21st minute with a score before finding the net again in the 49th minute. The Hawks managed 16 shots, seven of which were on goal. Goalkeeper Kevin Lambert finished with two saves on the afternoon.

Game 2 vs. John Wood
On Saturday, the Hawks welcomed John Wood Community College to The Corn Crib for an early-afternoon tilt. In dominating fashion, the Hawks scored early and often en route to a 5-0 victory over the Blazers.

Sebastian Padilla opened the scoring with a goal in the fifth minute on an Alessandro Redolfi assist. Marcos Mateos added two goals, the first coming in the 17th minute. Mateos scored later in the 48th minute as well, while also contributing an assist on Joe Delaney's netter in the 31st minute.

Mohammad Sanyang rounded-out the scoring for the Hawks, as the freshman found the net in the 88th minute with Redolfi once again assisting. Shaquiel Campbell also finished the contest with an assist. The Hawks finished with 23 shots, 15 of which were on goal. Lambert had four saves on the afternoon.

The men's team returns to action at 2:00 PM on Thursday at No. 7-ranked Parkland College.
