Heartland baseball continued its hot streak on Friday and Saturday, as the Hawks took down conference foe Illinois Central College in a four-game set. The Hawks improve to 33-4 overall and 17-3 in conference play, and have now won 10 straight games.
Â
Game 1
After trailing early, a huge sixth inning propelled Heartland to a 13-3 victory in game one of the series at ICC on Friday. ICC jumped on the board first, as the Cougars scored three runs off of Heartland starter
Meade Johnson to take a 3-0 lead. The Hawks would score twice in the fourth frame, as
Bobby Atkinson and
Mark Kattula each delivered sacrifice flies to make it 3-2. It was the sixth inning that saw the Hawks' offense come alive, as the visitors scored 11 runs to end the contest at 13-3.
Sam Antonacci and
Corey Boyette each supplied two-hit performances for Heartland in the win. Johnson finished going five innings, and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 10.

Game 2
Heartland's offense found a rhythm much earlier in game two on Friday, but again needed a huge sixth frame to secure the win. The Hawks scored four times in the opening frame to take a 4-0 lead. Boyette drove in a run with a sacrifice fly before Kattula delivered a three-run bomb later in the inning. The Cougars tied the contest at 4-4 with four tallies in the third. The Hawks would score once more in the fifth on a RBI double by Antonacci, and 12 more times in the sixth in the win. Antonacci slugged a grand slam in the inning, with

Game 3
The Hawks returned to action for a 9 am first pitch at The Corn Crib on Saturday. In more of a defensive affair, the home team ultimately pulled away with a 6-2 win over the Cougars. After ICC scored once in the opening inning, the Hawks responded with a tally in the second on a run-scoring single by
Aidan McNamee. Heartland added two more runs in the third, as a fly ball hit by Kattula was dropped by ICC's right fielder, allowing
Matt Santarelli and Boyette to come around to score. The Hawks would score twice more in the fifth, and once in the sixth in the victory.
Luke Wright received the win for Heartland, tossing five frames and yielding 1 run on 4 hits. Wright struck-out 6 and walked 2.
