Volleyball Ends Regular Season With Four Sweeps

Heartland volleyball ended regular season play last week with four sweeps, as the Hawks improved to 29-8 overall. The Hawks picked up a road win at Southwestern Illinois College on Tuesday, and two more road victories over Rend Lake College and Southeastern Illinois College on Saturday after defeating Waubonsee Community College on Thursday in the regular season home finale.
 
Belleville, Ill. was the site for Heartland's first sweep of the week on Tuesday against SWIC. The Hawks won each of the first two sets 25-19 before taking set three 25-18. Emma Harper finished with 10 kills and 13 digs, with Kennedy Conrad adding 17 digs. Julianne Kielion had 13 assists.
 
The Hawks returned home to the FRC on Thursday evening, defeating Waubonsee Community College (25-19, 25-23, 25-21). Head coach Mary Frahm picked up her 100th career win at the helm in the victory. Thus far, Frahm has guided the Hawks to a 102-26 overall record. Conrad supplied 21 digs, while Harper had 10 kills and 15 digs. Kielion contributed 22 assists.
 
The final two contests of the regular season saw the Hawks travel to Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg, Ill. Rend lake College was the foe for the first match of the day, as the Hawks cruised to yet another sweep (25-14, 25-19, 25-11). Conrad led the Hawks with 33 digs, Harper had 11 kills and eight digs and Kielion finished with 24 assists.
 
In the regular season finale, Heartland handled the host Southeastern Illinois College (25-11, 25-14, 25-16) to extend its winning streak to six entering postseason play. Conrad, who had 22 digs in the victory, now currently leads NJCAA DII in digs with 841. Kielion had 18 assists, and Mairen Mannon paced the kill category with seven for the Hawks.
 
The Hawks will now travel to Illinois Central College in East Peoria for a 2 pm district tournament matchup with the opponent to be determined.
