Game Recap: Volleyball | | Blaine Lewallen

Volleyball Completes 4-1 Week

Hawks Return to Action Wednesday at Lincoln Land

The Heartland volleyball team continued its success last week, as the Hawks turned in a 4-1 week to move their overall record to 7-2. The Hawks started out with a Tuesday night home win over Southwestern Illinois College before going 3-1 this past weekend in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Heartland took little time to jump on the Blue Storm on Tuesday, as the Hawks cruised to a 25-17 opening set victory.  SWIC would respond with a 25-23 win in the second set before the Hawks took the final two frames (26-24, 25-15). Kaitlin Dean supplied a clutch performance for the Hawks, finishing with 13 digs and 10 kills. Kaitlyn Conway added 23 digs for Heartland.

Chattanooga State Community College was the site for the final four contests for the Hawks, as they opened up play with the hosts on Friday afternoon. Despite the Hawks holding a 2-1 advantage through three sets, the Tigers were able to narrowly eke out a 27-25 win in set four before rallying for a 15-13 set five triumph. Game two of the day saw much better results for head coach Mary Frahm's team, as the Hawks defeated Northwest Mississippi Community College 3-1. Samantha Hovey led Heartland with 34 assists, 10 digs and 4 kills, with Dean contributing 15 kills and 15 digs.

The Hawks would continue their momentum into Saturday, sweeping Pasco-Hernando Community College before taking home a 3-1 win over Fayetteville Technical Community College to complete the weekend. Lauren Strange led the charge against Pasco-Hernando with 15 kills. Conway tossed in 19 digs for the Hawks. Dean ignited Heartland in game two, as she finished with 15 kills and 19 digs. Kennedy Conrad added 16 digs for the Hawks.

Heartland will resume action at 6 p.m. Wednesday, traveling to Lincoln Land Community College before returning home on Sept. 7 for a conference tilt with John Wood Community College.
